Painting

Shape of My Heart
This series of paintings uses repetition, collage, and color as acts of resistance against diaspora erasure. Through pattern-making, stamping, stenciling, and collaged painted papers, these works build an abstract visual language rooted in African and African American quilting traditions and textile design. In the aftermath of personal grief, my studio became a place of solace and purpose. Pattern-making and the repetition of shapes became my means of processing loss and restoring order to a life upended. The broken and reassembled fragments of collage, shape, and color in these works reflect an introspective exploration of movement, resilience, and emotional reconstruction - a testament to the power of art as both witness and healing.
